A "conversation piece" riff on the Daiquiri invented by Joe Scialom for the Plaza Hotel Rendezvous Room, New York, 1958. Newsweek printed this recipe shortly after Joe signed on there. He later adapted it into the Romulus and Remus for the Cavalieri Hilton in Rome.

Ingredients

Steps

  • Shake white rum, lime juice and tamarind syrup with ice and strain into a cocktail coupe.
  • Wrap the grape with a strip of orange peel and secure by spearing the peel-wrapped grape with a long toothpick, leaving enough of the pick free for you to hold. Dip this garnish in 151-proof rum and ignite.
  • Drop flaming garnish into drink.
