This is an exponential reduction of the original 1789 recipe, a veritable lake of punch served in hogsheads to the entire town of Medfield, Massachusetts, on the completion of the church meeting house.

  • Place lemon peel and both sugars in a shaker tin. Muddle vigorously. Let sit for half hour, and muddle again. Add lemon juice, then stir until sugar has liquefied. Add both rums and stir again. Remove peel.
  • Fill tin with ice cubes. Add beer. Stir to combine, then pour unstrained into two Old Fashioned Glasses.
