At the end of the Spanish-American War, America took hold of the large vestiges of the once vast Spanish Empire: Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Philippines, and Guam. This cocktail was created in honor for Puerto Rico's 2012 referendum on territorial status, the first time that a majority of voters indicated a preference for full statehood.
