Hawaii Kai Treasure
rum
Sources: Grog Log | Hawaii Kai
By Manny "Blackie" Andal of the Hawaii Kai restaurant, New York City, circa 1960s. Located "In the Heart of the Theatrical World" at Broadway and 50th, the now defunct Hawaii Kai beckoned foot traffic with an outdoor waterfall just off the sidewalk. Inside, The Lounge of Seven Pleasures offered "Authentic Native Entertainment," while the Okole Maluna Bar featured a Diamond Head diorama with dawn-to-dusk lighting changes. The "Treasure" was an 8mm pearl hidden among the gardenia petals.
